VERILASTTM Technology An advanced bearing system for TKA

چکیده

Introduction Long-term success of total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is a multifactorial issue. Implant design and materials selection play an important role in the wear-related performance of TKA. It is widely recognized that excessive wear of UHMWPE tibial inserts can result in mechanical implant instability and, in some instances, catastrophic wear. However, the more harmful effect occurs with time in vivo when UHMWPE tibial inserts, which wear at a steady rate, annually release billions of sub-micron particles into the host biological environment. The ultimate effect of this wear is osteolysis and attendant implant loosening, which is a major reason for revision surgery at middle to long-term follow-up.

Gait analysis of elderly women after total knee arthroplasty

[Purpose] The purpose of this study was to investigate ability and muscle activities of elderly women after total knee arthroplasty (TKA) and compare them with those of healthy ones. [Subjects and Methods] Fifteen female patients with TKA due to advanced degenerative arthritis of the measured on knee joint and 19 healthy elderly females participated. Tibiofemoral angles of TKA patients were usi...

Customized versus Patient-Sized Cruciate-Retaining Total Knee Arthroplasty: An In Vivo Kinematics Study Using Mobile Fluoroscopy.

BACKGROUND Historically, knee arthroplasties have been designed using average patient anatomy. Recent advances in imaging and manufacturing have facilitated the development of customized prostheses designed to fit the unique shape of individual patients. The purpose of this study is to determine if improving implant design through customized total knee arthroplasty (TKA) improves kinematic func...

A magnetorheological fluid damper for robust vibration control of flexible rotor-bearing systems: A comparison between sliding mode and fuzzy approaches

Squeeze Film Dampers (SFD) are commonly used for passive vibration control of rotor-bearing systems. The Magnetorheological (MR) and Electrorheological (ER) fluids in SFDs give a varying damping characteristic to the bearing that can provide active control schemes for the rotor-bearing system. A common way to model an MR bearing is implementing the Bingham plastic model. Adding this model to th...

Less Anterior Knee Pain with a Mobile-bearing Prosthesis Compared with a Fixed-bearing Prosthesis

UNLABELLED Anterior knee pain is one of the major short-term complaints after TKA. Since the introduction of the mobile-bearing TKA, numerous studies have attempted to confirm the theoretical advantages of a mobile-bearing TKA over a fixed-bearing TKA but most show little or no actual benefits. The concept of self-alignment for the mobile bearing suggests the posterior-stabilized mobile-bearing...
